Hair care in the summer
Although we like to spend our day at the beach, our hair may disagree. Exposing our hair to the sun as well as seawater may dry it out, cause split ends and even damage the hair! Firstly, let’s make sure to protect our hair from the damaging effects of UV-rays. There are a variety of UV-reflecting shampoos, conditioners and hair masks to protect our hair. These products are tailored to the summer, they nourish our hair while simultaneously protecting it from the sun and removing any chlorine and salt.
Did you know that there are also styling products with Sun Protection Factors (SPF)? There are both hairsprays and creams which nourish and protect against the sun. These kinds of products often contain a SPF10 or SPF15. If you rather take your own styling products on vacation, then make sure they are alcohol-free, as you don’t want to be drying out your hair.
Secondly, don’t let you hair get in touch with seawater or pool water. Both chlorine and sweater can cause your hair to dry out, even sand is bad for your hair. So protect your hair by wearing it in a bun when you go to the beach or visit a pool. If you use a hair tie, make sure to use one without any metallic pieces, such as an Invisibobble hair tie.
Skin care in the summer
Prevent your skin from being damaged by the sun by always using a sunscreen. For the best protection, use a sunscreen with SPF50. And make sure to regularly reapply your sunscreen, especially after swimming, sweating or drying off.
Did you know that there are tailored sunscreens for just your face? While most sunscreens are on the oily side, these are not and are therefore pleasant to use if you have an oily skin yourself. As a result, using these specialized sunscreens will prevent your face from glowing like it would with a regular sunscreen. There are even sunscreen for your face which treat ageing skin and pigment spots while simultaneously protecting against the sun.
As spending a day in the sun or at the beach or a pool can cause your skin to dry out, it is important to wash your skin with a hydrating shower oil. To really keep your skin hydrated, we also recommend applying a nourishing body lotion.
Rising temperatures may cause some people to have an oilier skin. So if this applies to you, don’t forget to adjust your skin care routine accordingly! There are lots of products for an oily skin which regulate sebum production and prevent pores from clogging. Be sure to check them out!
After sun
After spending an entire day in the sun be sure to use an after sun to hydrate and nourish your skin. Not only does an after sun nourish your skin, it also helps your newly acquired tan last longer. Not to forget the nice cooling effect of an after sun on your skin as many are made with aloe vera.
Removing hair in the summer
As we venture outside in breezy dresses and tank tops we want to make sure that our armpits and legs look ultra-smooth. If we plan on spending the day at the beach or a pool this will also include our bikini lines. Unfortunately removing hair can cause red bumps and ingrown hairs, which is something we don’t want. To prevent this from happening it is important to scrub regularly. If we scrub before removing our hair it will reduce the likelihood of ingrown hairs. Just like how there are products we can use prior, there are also cream we can use after to help reduce skin irritations, such as the creams by La Roche-Posay Cicaplast or Guinot Dépil Logic.
How you wish to remove your hair is entirely up to you. Whether you wish to shave, wax, epilate or use a hair removal cream.
