What is a steampod?
The L'Oréal Steampod; many beauty enthusiasts know him, but what does he actually do? The Steampod is a hair straightener that you can use for straightening. It is different compared to other straighteners because the Steampod operates on steam. Therefore, the Steampod also has a reservoir that needs to be filled with water (deminerized water, because otherwise, lime will form in the reservoir and you don't want that!).
The Steampod was developed by L'Oréal in collaboration with Rowenta and is available in two versions: the retail variant for home use and a salon pro variant for professional use in the salon. The difference is that the salon variant has a larger reservoir, so you don't need to refill it as often, and it has a holder in which you can store the Steampod. The salon variant is quite colossal and therefore not recommended for home use unless you have a gigantic cabinet in the bathroom!
How does a steampod work?
The hot steam that comes out of the appliance (yes, it gets hot like a regular hair straightener !!), your hair cuticles open and the steam can penetrate into the hair fiber. The core of your hair is nourished by the steam. Due to the ceramic plates, your hair will be straight, soft and shiny. Ceramic plates are strong and therefore are able to straighten thick or unruly hair. The Steampod is therefore suitable for all hair types and because of the nourishing element, it can even be used for damaged hair!
Which products to use with the Steampod?
The Steampod, like any other straightener, heats up. The temperature can be set at five different levels, starting from 140°C (for very fine hair) to 210°C for thick/resistant hair. Because it gets hot like any other straightener, you need to protect your hair. L'Oréal has developed specific products for this purpose; two different types of milk (one for thick and one for thin hair) and a serum. You can use either a cream or a serum, or both separately.
