The story of Wella began in the 19th century with the vision and passion of the German hairdresser Franz Ströher. In 1904 he opened a factory in Rothenkirchen, where his sons patented the brand name Wella. Wella comes from ‘Welle’, the German word for wave, inspired by the hair wave device which the brothers had developed.
