Gel Polish

Gel polish is a long-lasting nail polish that is applied to the nails using a brush, similar to traditional nail polish. However, this nail polish does not dry on its own. The nail polish needs to be cured under a special UV lamp or LED lamp. Traditional nail polish typically remains nice for about 2-7 days, while gel polish can last up to 14 days. The drawback of gel polish is that it is not as easy to remove from the nails.

Applying Gel Polish

To apply gel polish, you will need:

- Basecoat
- Topcoat
- Gel polish in a color
- Nail cleaner
- UV or LED lamp
- Cuticle oil

Start by disinfecting the nails and pushing back the cuticles using a cuticle stick. File the nails into the desired shape and lightly roughen the nail plate with a nail buffer. Roughening the nail slightly helps the polish adhere better. Clean the nails thoroughly with a nail cleaner and apply a primer. Now, begin by applying a layer of basecoat and let the nails dry under a UV or LED lamp. Next, apply a layer of gel polish in your favorite color and also let it dry under the UV or LED lamp. You can repeat this step before applying the topcoat. Finally, pamper the nails with cuticle oil.

Removing Gel Polish

Gel polish can last up to 14 days. Because it lasts longer, it is also more challenging to remove. You can remove the nail polish from the nails using the following steps. You will need:

- Nail file
- Nail polish remover
- Nail buffer
- Cuticle oil

Start by removing the shine from the nails with a file. Then, let the nails soak in remover for 10-15 minutes. This can be done easily using foil wraps with a sponge and nail polish remover. Remove the gel with a manicure stick. If you have any last bits of polish on the nail, you can best remove them with your nail buffer. Once all the gel polish is removed from the nails, treat the nails with cuticle oil.
